The U-2 is still a fragil, but it still flies plenty of missions, because the alternatives aren’t great. Satellites can drift half a planet away from their targets, and the only comparable drone, the #GlobalHawk, cannot ­manage the same kind of payload, sensor capability, or altitude. That doesn’t mean engineers haven’t made a few improvements to the U-2 though. Today it has a 40 percent larger airframe, a more efficient engine, and a computerized instrument panel. Plus, pilots no longer fly with cyanide pills in case of capture

The model is designed for 90mm  electric ducted fan or small turbines.

The Jager Hobby U-2R / TR-1 can be flown very well as a pure glider model on the slope or PSS.

 

Our test model this year on both a 6s 1800w 90mm EDF and as a slope model

 

The design is light enough to achieve great flight performance with 90mm fans and performance from 1200 watts plus.

The design was built strong so she can also  use a 30 Nm class turbine for a realistic sound in flight.

The wing is made in two parts and is attached to the fuselage with an aluminium tube. The joiner tube connections are already mounted in the wing.

The upper access to the fuselage interior is easily possible through the removable hatch.

For the access to the Fan or Turbine a corresponding cover has to be cut out to suit your install out.

 

Even though she has a 3.2m wingspan a hand launch is easy . Its possible to add retractable landing gear if you wish.

The flight characteristics are rather untypical for a model jet, since the #U2R / TR-1 is really a big glider (in the model as in the real aircraft).

The model flies like a large aerobatic glider, such as #FOX or #Swift, only with slight flaws in aerobatics, due to the short tail movement.


The strengths of the U-2R / TR-1 are clearly in the good gliding performance, coupled with the great flight pattern.

The ground speed is relatively low, which allows relaxed flying without stress. Due to the generous flaps, the glide angle in landing approach can be well adjusted, the landing speed is in the range of a trainer.
